Senior Strategic Buyer-Facilities Management and Engineering

Are you an experienced Category Manager? Do you have experience of managing FM and Engineering contracts?  If so, we are looking for a self-motivated individual with a passion for procurement, who relishes negotiation and thrives on getting good results for the customer!

Role: Senior Strategic Buyer-Facilities Management and Engineering

Direct report: to VP Head of Procurement

Hours: Full time, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Salary: Starting from £45,000 dependent on experience and qualifications plus we offer a fantastic benefits package and annual bonuses.

Location: Milton Park, Abingdon, Oxford OX14 4SA.

Our Abingdon site is located in one of the UK’s largest business communities, a hub of innovation and collaboration with access to a range of events and activities throughout the year.  Set in a stunning landscape with a choice of walking routes, onsite amenities, and excellent transport connections  via a dedicated bus service from surrounding towns and direct trains from London, Reading and Swindon to Didcot Parkway all made easier with a shuttle bus from the station to the park every 10 minutes.

Due to ongoing improvements within the function, we are looking for an experience procurement professional to contribute towards the transformation of our purchasing team.

Role and Responsibilities for our Senior Strategic Buyer for FM and Engineering.

The xx plays a key role within the Procurement team, working closely with operations; the on site FM team as well as other enabling functions to ensure purchases satisfy the technical and commercial brief.  You will  be experienced in communicating at all levels including senior management and possess excellent negotiation skills complemented by a highly analytical mindset.  Knowledgeable in all aspects of procurement, particularly within the FM & Engineering category; contractual documents, you will be experienced in SRM, taking the lead in QBR’s, creating KPI’s and monitoring SLA’s.   Strong Project Management skills with a proven track record of negotiating FM & Engineering contracts.

Upon passing probationary period, this role will be office based for a min of 3 days a week with some flexibility for home office working and may involve some infrequent travel to other sites.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Support and develop the purchasing processes within FM & Engineering spend on site with the help of Head of Procurement and the international purchasing team.
  • Work collaboratively with the FM and Engineering team, understanding priorities agreeing strategies and keeping stakeholders informed of progress
  • Formulate the category strategy in alignment with the VP of Procurement and VP of Facilities as well as collaborating with procurement teams based in France; Italy; Germany and US.
  • Lead commercially strong negotiations for Capex and Opex purchases, seeking to reduce YOY by leveraging your engineering and negotiation skills
  • Review contractual clauses, working with the Legal team and taking the lead of negotiating the most appropriate and favourable contract structures for the Company.
  • Understanding budgets; tracking spend vs. budgets, reporting and presenting numbers
  • Perform and review spend analysis with an ability to present at all levels.
  • Manage supplier relationships and build strategic alliances with key providers
  • Help support onboarding of new technology as and when it becomes available
  • Participate in lean efficiency projects.
  • Participate in SOX audits.

Skills & Competencies we look for

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to work autonomously and as an active team member demonstrating strong ability to collaborate
  • Background in Engineering with a proven track record of managing and negotiating projects within FM&E from a procurement perspective
  • Collaborative and Accountable with the ability to influence others.
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Experience in leading negotiations for Capex and Opex Projects within FM & Engineering.
  • High level of understanding of contractual terms and supporting documents e.g. SLA’s; SOW’s PQQ and RFP’s.
  • High proficiency with MS Office, particularly Excel, good numerical and analytical skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to work to tight deadlines
  • High degree of self-motivation, reliability, and flexibility
  • Understanding of SOX within P2P is desirable.

Education and Experience

  • We’re looking for a significant years’ relevant work experience within a purchasing environment, we are open to sector background.
  • Must have experience in managing category of FM & Engineering
  • A good understanding of the role and expectations of Procurement
  • BA/BS Degree (or higher/equivalent) in either economics or equivalent with relevant focus OR equivalent relevant industrial or academic experience is expected.
  • Proficiency in common office software like Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience using ERP systems, with knowledge of e-procurement advantageous but not essential
