Mechanical & Building Services Engineer
The Facility Management & Engineering Team is looking for a hands-on Mechanical & Building Services Engineer to lead and support technical upgrades at Hamburg site and occasionally Göttingen and Munich. Main focus will be modernizing outdated systems — such as ventilation, fire safety, cooling, water purification, and integrating them with the Building Management System (BMS) — ensuring all changes meet regulatory, safety and animal welfare standards.
Mechanical & Building Services Engineer (all genders)
Key Responsibilities:
- Point of contact for mechanical and infrastructure system upgrade at the Hamburg site according to the standards.
- Review, guide, and supervise technical plans from contractors and engineering firms.
- Plan and coordinate the replacement/upgrade of systems:
- Fire protection and acoustic alarms
- HVAC, ventilation, humidification
- Cooling and water purification
- Integration with BMS
- Ensure systems meet standards for lab operations, safety and environmental control.
- Support audits, inspections and compliance reporting.
- Update documentation, SOPs and maintenance plans.
- Collaborate with facility teams, lab users and external partners.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services or similar.
- Several years of experience in mechanical/facility systems, ideally in labs, research or healthcare settings.
- Knowledge of HVAC, fire protection, BMS systems.
- Familiarity with German regulations and energy standards.
- Strong technical review, coordination and reporting skills.
- Proficiency in technical documentation and reporting.
- Experience in reviewing technical documentation, construction supervision and contractor coordination.
- Sound practical experience in CAFM-Systems.
- Very good German (ideally C1 level); English is a plus.
