Senior Scientist II, Cell Line Development
Just – Evotec Biologics is seeking a highly motivated and creative senior-level cell line development (CLD) scientist who is seeking a significant opportunity to improve worldwide access to biotherapeutics. This position will be responsible for driving scientific innovation, executing cell line development for client and partner programs, and leading and mentoring a small team of junior level scientists. Deep experience in mammalian cell culture (CHO experience preferred), molecular biology, and stable transgene expression are required. Experience in genome editing, next-gen sequencing, automation/liquid handling, antibody structure, computational biology, and biotherapeutic process development (PD) are desired. The successful candidate must also possess strong skills in written and verbal communication, leadership, and collaboration; a desire to learn new scientific concepts and domains; and an ability to work directly with scientific staff across multiple disciplines. A proven track record in cell line development, technology development, familiarity with analytical characterization, and a working knowledge of CMC manufacturing is required. Experience with early and late-stage regulatory filings and regulatory interactions is highly desired.
Responsibilities:
- Execute cell line development activities, including creating stable cell lines, single-cell cloning, and preparing CLD-related documents that support IND filing
- Manage, train, and provide scientific mentorship to junior staff to work innovatively and collaboratively
- Optimize strategies, and workflows that increase efficiency and de-risk projects
- Lead efforts to identify, evaluate and champion new CLD technologies to support the mission of low cost biotherapeutics
- CMC Lead and/or functional area lead for complex client or technology projects
- Drive scientific and technological innovation in CHO cell engineering
- Evaluate and implement novel technologies to improve CLD platform
- Support successful MCB and WCB manufacturing for client projects
- Contributing or primary author of regulatory documents, patents, external publications, presentations/posters. Represent Just at external meetings and conferences
Qualifications:
- PhD in a related scientific area with 5+ years of relevant experience; or BS with 10+ years of relevant experience
- Strong SME in cellular and molecular biology techniques to create stable cell lines suitable for protein therapeutics
- Experience with expression construct design for cell lines expressing large molecules, such as mAbs, fusion proteins, and bispecifics
- Expertise in cell line development for protein therapeutics including experience with multiple mammalian cell lines
- Proficiency creating novel expression vectors to obtain highly productive cell lines that express material to meet process development product quality targets
- Experience in cell line development for commercialization of novel biologics and biosimilars, including experience designing cell lines to match innovator PQA/CQA
- Experience utilizing high throughput automation and data systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with expertise communicating effectively over teleconference and web-based meetings. Comfort with scientific presentations to all types of audiences, including senior leadership and executive
- Passionate about development of new technology with strong drive toward innovation in areas of genome engineering, including CRISPR-based methods and next-gen sequencing
The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be $125,000 to $140,000; Base salary offered may vary depending on individual’s skills, experience and competitive market value.
