We’re looking for a passionate and curious Automation Engineer to join our team. What You’ll Do:

The Automation Engineer plays a pivotal role in driving the advancement of biopharmaceutical production through automation and digitalization. Building upon their experience and expertise in automation and digital technologies, they support the technological development across the P&PD lab automation group for all relevant activities.

  • Design, write and troubleshoot scripts for Hamilton, TECAN, Andrew+ and other liquid handlers and pipetting robots.

  • Assess commercially available liquid handlers for improving consistency, throughput, and efficiency of all laboratory workflows.

  • Have awareness of commercially available instrumentation for the improvement of existing workflow processes and for the introduction of increased capability of antibody discovery efforts.

  • Design, write and troubleshoot scripts in Visual Basic, Excel, Python or similar, that aid in sample handling, processing, and tracking in association with laboratory instrumentation.

  • Collaborate with scientists within the Discovery group and immediate department to drive development, efficiency and integration of workflows.

  • Utilize and integrate LIMS with instrumentation and laboratory workflows.

  • Install, configure and commission Instrumentation and control system devices.

Who You Are:

  • Knowledgeable of automation hardware including liquid handling robots, pipetting robots, centrifuges, incubators, and plate readers.

  • Experienced with scripting with Tecan EVOware/FluentControl and/or Hamilton STAR.

  • Able to interpret experimental needs and translate them into automation scripts.

  • Experienced with high throughput cell culture (e.g. deep-well plate assays or robotics)

  • Familiar with different automation hardware and ability to identify new applications to automate bench-scale workflows.

  • An expertise user to automate experiments, models, and solutions using internal and external resources.

  • Having a background with popular programing languages (e.g. Python) is a plus.

  • Experienced with Instrumentation and Control systems including sensors, PLCs, communication protocols, and supervisory systems.

  • Able to read and understand wiring connection diagrams.

  • Skilled with basic understanding of network communication concepts like IP addressing, network segmentation, and TCP/IP.

  • A problem solver with analytical skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office apps (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)

  • Positive with good service motivation.

  • Able to work, both in a team and individually.

  • Able to work in an active, collaborative, constructive and respectful manner with all colleagues within and across departments.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with flexibility in a changing and demanding environment.

  • An engineer or master’s in engineering, biology or robotics.

  • 5-7 years of biotechnology or biopharmaceutical experience in a life science laboratory.
