Lab Technician

Here at Evotec we are currently recruiting for a Laboratory Technician to join the Early Formulation & Developability, at our campus in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, UK.

The Laboratory Technician will play a key role in supporting the smooth operation of the Early Formulation & Developability department, providing a range of essential laboratory and technical services to formulation scientists and project leaders. This role ensures the laboratory is fully equipped, well-maintained, and compliant with company safety standards, enabling the team to deliver early formulation services for standalone and integrated projects within the company's pharmaceutical and preclinical development business line.

Located in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, the Early Formulation department provides expertise and technology to address challenging New Chemical Entities (NCEs) and optimise bioavailability for preclinical and early clinical development. This role will report to the Early Formulation manager.

Role & Responsibilities

• Maintain laboratory stocks of consumables, excipients, and gas supplies, ensuring timely ordering and appropriate base stock levels.
• Audit consumables and excipient stocks regularly, review expiry dates, and arrange safe disposal or replenishment as required.
• Liaise with the warehouse for supply of solvents, waste removal, and delivery of key consumables.
• Receive and log incoming samples, allocate storage locations, and maintain up-to-date inventory records including MSDS files.
• Coordinate with the dispatch team to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely shipment of samples with required documentation.
• Maintain and operate key laboratory equipment, such as SEM, XRPD, DVS, PSD, and HPLC, including basic maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Support analytical testing and sample preparation under the supervision of scientists or project leads.
• Assist in ongoing organisation and improvement of laboratory systems and processes to enhance efficiency and compliance.
• Perform daily checks and maintenance of shared resources, including laboratory dishwasher and waste streams.
• Adhere to all safety, quality, and procedural requirements, ensuring compliance with company SOPs and EHS policies.

The Person

• Previous experience in a laboratory environment, following SOPs and working to high safety standards.
• Understanding of basic analytical techniques and laboratory processes.
• Ability to accurately record, label, and store samples, and maintain clear and concise documentation.
• Competence in using and maintaining scientific equipment, with willingness to learn new techniques.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage stock levels and coordinate with multiple internal departments.
• Proactive approach to problem-solving and ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to liaise effectively across teams.
• Positive, collaborative attitude and commitment to supporting team success.
