At Evotec’s headquarters in Hamburg, Germany, the RNA Biology group is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated

Intern (all genders)

RNA Biology

Full-time and temporary for 8 months

Responsibilities:

  • Learn technologies used by the RNA biology team and help to continuously improve and develop the technologies for their use in customer projects 
  • Development of a High throughput screening assay (HTS) that allows monitoring of protein translation from a specific mRNA in-vitro (IVT-assay). Learn and apply standard techniques to make an assay “screening ready” 
  • Produce and purify mRNA’s of interest by means of IVT and chromatographic techniques for their use in the IVT assays 
  • Produce and validate translation-competent lysates from cells in order to support the IVT assay with internally produced components. Evaluate and benchmark the internally produced lysates against commercial sources. 
  • Provide and communicate high-quality data on time and document results as requested by Evotec and our external collaborators. Establish the research area within the department. 
  • The position comprises at least 70-80% of the time working at the bench

Qualifications:

  • Successfully completed Bachelor’s degree in the field of biological sciences with first hands-on experience on the job in an academic, pharmaceutical or biotechnology laboratory
  • Currently enrolled as a master student in the field of biological sciences
  • Experience with chromatography (RP, SEC and affinity chromatography), molecular biology techniques and other techniques for analyzing RNA samples would be a plus
  • Experience with handling RNA and performing in vitro transcription reactions preferred.
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent activities and to work successfully under pressure to tight timelines
  • Self-starter and flexible team player
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English
