Senior Systems Engineer - Network and Network Security

• Design: Develop and plan network infrastructures that are both scalable and secure. Evaluate and select appropriate network hardware and software to meet business requirements. Create network architectures that ensure high availability and fault tolerance.

• Implementation: Physically and logically install network solutions, including cabling, device configuration, and integration into existing systems. Conduct tests to ensure the functionality and security of implemented solutions. Collaborate with other IT teams to ensure seamless implementation.

• Operation: Monitor network performance and security using appropriate tools and dashboards. Troubleshoot and resolve network issues to minimize downtime. Perform regular security reviews and audits.

• Automation: Develop scripts and playbooks to automate routine tasks such as configuration management and software updates. Use automation tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Chef to manage the network infrastructure. Identify areas where automation can increase efficiency and reduce errors.

• Documentation: Create and maintain detailed network topologies and configurations. Document changes and upgrades to the network infrastructure. Develop operational and support manuals for the network team.

• Integration: Integrating various components to create complex technical solutions that can be seamlessly integrated into existing infrastructures.

• Troubleshooting and Optimization: Identifying and resolving technical issues, as well as optimizing existing systems to improve performance and reliability.

• Quality Assurance: Ensuring that all systems meet quality standards and are regularly maintained.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

• Technical Skills: Experience in network security, particularly in the implementation and management of firewalls and VPNs. Proficiency in scripting languages for task automation.

• Network Protocols: A deep understanding of network protocols such as TCP/IP and HTTP/S is essential. TCP/IP is the fundamental communication protocol of the internet, enabling the transmission of data packets between computers. HTTP and HTTPS are protocols used for web page transmission, with HTTPS being a secure version of HTTP that uses SSL/TLS for encryption.

• Firewalls and IDS/IPS: Configuring and managing firewalls is a crucial skill. Firewalls protect networks by monitoring and controlling incoming and outgoing traffic. Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) and Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) are also important as they can detect and prevent attacks by monitoring suspicious activities within the network.

• Encryption and Cryptography: Knowledge of SSL (Secure Sockets Layer), Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), and other encryption techniques is vital. SSL is used to enable secure connections over the internet, while PKI provides a framework for managing public keys and digital certificates necessary for secure communication and authentication.

• Cloud Security: Experience with cloud services is highly valuable. Cloud security involves implementing measures to protect data and applications in the cloud. This includes managing identities and access rights, encrypting data, and monitoring for security threats.

• Scripting: Skills in scripting languages are important for task automation. These languages allow for the efficient handling of repetitive tasks and the automation of complex processes, making IT system management easier.

• Penetration Testing: Conducting penetration tests is crucial for identifying vulnerabilities in systems. Penetration testers simulate attacks on networks and applications to uncover security weaknesses that malicious actors could exploit. These tests help improve security measures and minimize the risk of security breaches.

• Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex network problems and develop innovative solutions. Experience in conducting risk analyses and implementing security measures.
