EH&S Manager - Redmond, WA

This pivotal position reports to the Director, EH&S and assists in providing oversight and development of Environmental Health & Safety at Just-Evotec Biologics sites in Seattle/Redmond, Washington, with primary responsibilities to support the Redmond site.  We believe that a culture of safety is created and sustained by effective utilization of all resources including knowledge of compliance and regulations, engagement with leadership and partnering with staff.  This position has a key role in enhancing the environmental, health and safety programs at JEB’s R&D and cGMP biologics manufacturing sites.   

Location: Based in Redmond, WA, supporting Seattle, WA.

Position works with employees and contractors to promote a positive safety culture and provide guidance to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations and company policies; safety and environmental reporting; maintaining safety metrics; incident investigation with corrective action development; measurement and analysis of occupational risks; and recommendations for risk mitigation.  Safety is taken very seriously at Just-Evotec Biologics, this position is highly visible and interactive across the organization. This position will have the opportunity to interact with the Global Head of EH&S of Evotec, and EHS leaders at other Evotec sites. 

Responsibilities 

  • Manage development and implementation of environmental, health, and safety programs to meet regulatory requirements, corporate initiatives, and company objectives. 
  • Promote a positive safety culture throughout the organization and sites.  
  • Provide awareness regarding environmental and safety issues through training and continual communication in areas such as laboratory safety, chemical and biological safety, hazardous materials, hazardous waste, ergonomics, biosafety/bloodborne pathogens, and emergency response. 
  • Coordinate incident investigations with managers and affected teams to fully evaluate each incident and ensure that all causes have been identified then corrective actions are appropriate to prevent future recurrence. 
  • Oversee job hazard analyses/risk assessments and identification of potential hazards related to work processes and new equipment/products. 
  • Coach, train, and/or mentor any employee/contractor in safe and environmentally progressive practices. 
  • Develop and maintain global and local EH&S standard operating procedures. 
  • Maintain JEB Seattle/Redmond EH&S-related records, data, and metrics. 
  • Support JEB Safety Committees at Seattle/Redmond. 
  • Support Global EHS strategies and initiatives.  
  • Participate in the JEB Emergency Response Team. 

Qualification 

  • Minimum of 7 years of EHS experience. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental Science or related field; alternatively, scientific degree followed by formal EHS training. 
  • EHS experience in pharmaceutical, biotech or life science industries. 
  • Experience in lab safety, biosafety, emergency response, hazardous waste and hazardous materials management.  
  • Current knowledge of EHS laws and regulations that impact the organization’s operations.  
  • Working experience in conducting incident investigations and interacting with regulatory agencies. 
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to work with cross functional teams such as Facilities & Engineering, Product and Process Development, Quality, and Operations at multiple levels.  

The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be $75,500 - $115,000; Base salary offered may vary depending on individual’s skills, experience, and competitive market value.
