The Head of MS&T is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership for Manufacturing Science & Technology activities across the site. The role ensures technical oversight of commercial manufacturing processes, validation lifecycle management, and successful execution of technology transfers and new product introductions.
The Head of MS&T acts as the primary technical authority for manufacturing processes and is accountable for maintaining process robustness, product quality, regulatory compliance, continuous improvement, and operational readiness.


The position leads multidisciplinary teams covering Process Engineering, Validation, and Technology Transfer and serves as a key member of the Site Leadership Team.


What You’ll Do:


1. Technical Stewardship & Process Lifecycle Management
Own the site process knowledge management strategy and ensure preservation of critical manufacturing know-how.
Ensure robust lifecycle management of manufacturing processes from commercial launch through discontinuation.
Lead technical assessments of deviations, investigations, root cause analyses, CAPAs, and process-related quality events.
Provide subject matter expertise for upstream, downstream and support manufacturing processes.
Ensure appropriate technical support to manufacturing operations.
Drive continuous process verification and process performance monitoring.
Identify and implement process optimization opportunities to improve quality, yield, reliability, and cost.

2. Validation Stewardship
Own the site validation strategy and validation master planning.
Ensure compliant execution of process validation, cleaning validation and continued process verification activities.
Oversee PPQ strategy, protocol development, execution and reporting.
Ensure statistical trending and data-driven evaluation of process capability
Lead cross-contamination risk assessments and validation activities related to cleaning and decontamination.
Maintain inspection readiness for validation-related topics.
Ensure validation practices comply with global regulatory requirements and internal quality standards.

3. Technology Transfer & New Product Introduction
Lead end-to-end technology transfer activities for new products and manufacturing processes.
Ensure robust transfer of process knowledge from development organizations and external partners
Coordinate technical due diligence, facility fit assessments and gap analyses.
Define and execute Control Strategy implementation including CPPs, CQAs and associated monitoring plans.
Ensure engineering run, PPQ and launch readiness through stage-gate governance.
Drive cross-functional alignment across Development, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain and Engineering.
Support site network expansion and introduction of new technologies and manufacturing platforms.

4. Leadership & Organization Development
Lead and develop the MS&T organization including Process Experts, Validation Engineers and Technology Transfer teams.
Establish a culture of scientific excellence, accountability, innovation and continuous improvement.
Develop organizational capabilities to support future portfolio growth and technology evolution.
Manage workforce planning, succession planning and talent development.
Foster strong collaboration with global MS&T, Development, Quality and Manufacturing organizations.

5. Compliance, Quality & HSE

Ensure all MS&T activities are conducted in compliance with GMP, HSE and corporate policies.
Support regulatory inspections, customer audits and health authority interactions.
Serve as technical representative for process and validation topics during inspections.
Promote a proactive quality culture and risk-based decision making.
Ensure technical risks are identified, assessed and mitigated appropriately.

Who You are:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related scientific discipline.

  • 15+ years of experience in biopharmaceutical manufacturing, MS&T, process engineering or technical operations.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing multidisciplinary technical teams.

  • Proven experience in commercial manufacturing support, process validation and technology transfer.

  • Strong knowledge of GMP regulations and health authority expectations.

  • Experience with biologics manufacturing processes (USP/DSP) preferred.
